Founders Day

Delaware Water Gap Celebrating Founders Day on June 25, 2016

DELAWARE WATER GAP — The historic borough of Delaware Water Gap, long known as the “Gateway to the Poconos,” will celebrate Founder’s Day 2016 with a community-wide festival on Saturday, June 25.

The event, billed as “A Big Day in a Little Borough,” features arts and crafts, historical presentations, food, live music and a classic car show on borough streets.

The day begins with a Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Church of the Mountain on Main Street. Ticket sales of $8 for adults and $5 for children will benefit the Delaware Water Gap Fire Company’s project to repair and renovate its aging firehouse.

The “Cars in the Water Gap” show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., when more than 100 classic and custom cars will be on display on the streets around the Castle Inn.

Visitors are invited to see the progress of the historic Delaware Water Gap Railroad Station renovation project from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An excursion train from the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton will arrive at about 11:30 a.m., giving rail buffs a chance to see a vintage train up close and bringing visitors to the borough for the day.

The Dutot Museum & Gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with local history exhibits, a video presentation on the borough’s resort town past, Pennsylvania 142nd Co. C Civil War reenactors, and a presentation by Antoine Dutot, founder of Delaware Water Gap.

Fun for all starts at 1 p.m. with the Great Cherry Creek Rubber Duck Race at the Village Farmer on Broad Street. Visitors can buy and decorate ducks for the race beginning at 11 a.m., and also see and display of live animals and birds from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the day (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), a free Martz Trailways shuttle bus will carry visitors from parking areas and to all the event sites.

Founder’s Day is hosted by The Friends of Delaware Water Gap, a group of volunteers helping to maintain the borough as a great place to live and visit. Fundraising events include an annual golf outing at Wolf Hollow, concessions at the fall Celebration of the Arts, which support Founder’s Day, an annual Good Citizens Dinner, and Christmas decorations and activities.
